Campaigners aim for action on cancers
Unions and safety campaigners are pressing the HSE to take action to reduce the incidence of occupational cancer.
Research by Hazards magazine has shown that the HSE has consistently underestimated the scale of work-related cancer deaths and ignored or downgraded current exposures (see Workplace Report, December 2005).
An HSE conference on 25–26 June will consider revisions to the official figures, but campaigners want a far more comprehensive reassessment – and one that leads directly to more action on combating work cancers.
