NMW increases

The adult National Minimum Wage rises by 11 pence per hour to £6.19 per hour from 1 October. The increase in percentage terms — 1.8% — is well below the current rate of inflation.

The youth development rate for 18- to 20-year-olds remains frozen at £4.98 per hour and the 16- 17-year- old rate is also frozen at just £3.68 an hour.

The apprentice rate, which covers apprentices under the age of 19, and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship, is increased by five pence or 1.9% to £2.65 an hour.

The accommodation offset that employers can charge is increased by nine pence to £4.82 a day.
