Inflation shows sharp rise
Inflation rose sharply to an 18-month high, the latest official figures show. Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI), inflation in March was 4.4%, against 3.7% the previous month.
Higher petrol prices and dearer seasonal food were largely to blame.
Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), inflation rose to 3.4% last month from 3.0% in February.
