‘Show leadership’ call on pay angers Whitehall
Some of the highest-paid public sector staff are to get rises of 1% following the government’s acceptance of most of the recommendations of the Senior Salaries Review Body (SSRB).
The 1% rise applies to judicial salaries; base salaries for senior military officers; very senior NHS managers; and minimum salaries for the highest paid band 2 and 3 civil servants.
However, the government’s rejection of proposed increases for many top civil servants, and a call for them to “show leadership” in the exercise of pay restraint has angered the FDA trade union.
“The government has once again used senior civil servants as the means of demonstrating sacrifice and restraint,” said FDA general secretary Dave Penman.
