‘Potholes’ in skilled trades

Analysis from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills’ (UKCES) annual skills survey shows that “a lack of training in some sectors of the economy is leading to persistent skills gaps that are becoming increasing problematic.”

The UKCES describes the findings as “skills potholes” and they are particularly prevalent in skilled trades, such as chefs, plumbers and electricians where one in three vacancies are classified by employers as hard to fill.
