Recognition success at news agency
The NUJ journalists’ union has achieved recognition at global news agency Associated Press (AP).
Last summer, strike action by NUJ members over pension provision was narrowly averted when AP management agreed to enter “meaningful talks”. The members at AP had voted by 87.5% in favour of a strike, and at Associated Press Television News the vote was a rock solid 100%.
Welcoming the recognition, Barry Fitzpatrick, NUJ deputy general secretary, said: “We now encourage non-members to join the union, be a part of the NUJ’s news agency’s family and be involved in future negotiations for pay and conditions.”
