Campaign targets contractors
THE Justice 4 Cleaners campaign (J4C) has had another push to force building services firms in the City of London to sign and implement recognition deals. Demonstrations were held against Pall Mall, Lancaster and other contractors operating at financial institutions in the City.
Over the past two years, high-profile action by J4C and support from the Unite (T&G) general union has forced some firms to sign deals committing them to negotiate on pay and conditions and allowing union organisers access to their sites. However, J4C says that Pall Mall, McClellands and Sodexho are three City contractors who haven’t signed the agreements at all. In addition there are the contractors, like Lancaster, “who have signed up but aren’t implementing the agreements properly.”
