Organising award
The TUC’s annual Organising Rep Award for 2009 went to a GMB member whose recruitment efforts lead to 20-fold increase in branch membership in 18 months. Michael Hunt, who works in a call centre in Stockton on Tees, set up a GMB branch within npower and raised membership from 50 to 1,000.
