New moves in Spain
In an attempt at getting the government to withdraw legal changes making dismissals easier (see Labour Research, July 2010, page 8), Spain’s’ two main union confederations, the CCOO and UGT, are gathering 500,000 signatures so that the Spanish parliament is obliged to reconsider the measures.
This follows a general strike on 29 September, which paralysed much of Spanish industry. Public transport was less affected than in previous general strikes because of new rules on minimum services.
