Respect shop staff

The shopworkers’ union Usdaw is running a Respect for Shopworkers week from 7 November to raise awareness of the violence, threats and abuse that retail staff suffer.

Many Usdaw members say that incidents of verbal abuse increase dramatically in the run-up to Christmas as customers get stressed out and stores get very busy. So the campaign is asking shoppers to: Keep cool at Christmas — respect shopworkers.

The union is hoping that reps, activists and members will support the campaign by distributing materials at work and on the high street, and getting local media and their MPs involved.
