Firefighters fear over job cuts and safety
Jobs cuts will threaten the safety of firefighters and the public, the FBU firefighters’ union has said in response to employers’ plans.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue want to remove the firefighter who controls and records the entry of crews into burning buildings, a role introduced after firefighter deaths. The FBU is considering referring the matter to the Health and Safety Executive.
In Greater Manchester, further job cuts are planned, while in Essex one in 10 firefighters faces the axe. The FBU is balloting members for action in some of the affected areas.
