Enforcement body

One of the recommendations of the Good Work Plan, resulting from the Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices published in 2017, was a single enforcement body to enhance protection of workers’ basic employment rights.

Other recommendations remain stalled with the employment Bill. But this one looks set to proceed, with the government last month announcing a “workers’ rights watchdog” to enforce the minimum wage, police modern slavery and protect agency workers.

But a crucial omission is its failure to deal with bogus self-employment. This means workers will continue having to resort to lengthy and expensive legal action to enforce their basic rights.
