Inflation up once more
Rising food prices were the driving force behind yet another lurch upwards in inflation for the year to September.
The union-preferred Retail Prices Index reached a new high of 12.6% (RPI is liable to be affected by rising mortgage interest payments).
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) returned to the 10.1% rate seen in July but, with a housing element (CPIH) it is now lagging almost 4 points behind RPI on 8.8%.
