Employers join call to scrap EU Bill

The Institute of Directors joined organisations including the TUC, the CIPD HR professionals’ body, the ATLEU and FLEX anti-labour exploitation groups and the Unchecked UK regulation campaign group to call on business secretary Grant Shapps to withdraw the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill.

The Bill aims to remove all EU-derived law from the statute book (see Labour Research, December 2022, pages 9-11).

Representatives of unions, employers, lawyers, environmental groups and civil society say the Bill, if passed into law, would “automatically sweep away thousands of pieces of legislation and established legal principles”.

Urging Shapps to reconsider the legislation, they say: “Making these changes will prove costly and bureaucratic and would undermine the certainty and stability workers and businesses need if the economy is to prosper.”
