First of four strikes held at Heathrow

Unite has reported that the first of four one-day strikes at Heathrow Airport (see last issue) went off well.

Strikers included firefighters, engineers and workers from campus security, baggage operations, central terminal operations, landside and airside operations, the union said.

They are striking against Heathrow Airport Limited’s “fire and rehire” policies that could see them losing up to £8,000 a year in wages.

John McDonnell MP made an appearance at the picket line to show his support.
