UCAS to advertise apprenticeships
Apprenticeship opportunities are to be advertised alongside undergraduate degree courses on the website of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) – the central service which handles higher education admissions across the UK.
Education secretary Gillian Keegan announced the move during last month’s National Apprenticeship Week as part of a longer term plan to “put technical and vocational education on an equal footing with traditional academic routes”.
UCAS will advertise apprenticeships from this autumn, and by 2024 students will be able to apply for apprenticeships alongside an undergraduate degree application. Eventually the government wants apprenticeship vacancies at all levels to be advertised on the UCAS hub, not just degree apprenticeships.
