University strike
University unions UCU, UNISON and Unite were planning their first joint UK-wide strike on 31 October, following a 1% pay offer that would signify a 13% pay cut in real terms since October 2008.
Meanwhile, the average pay and pensions package for vice-chancellors has hit almost £250,000 the unions said.
