Black members

Retail and distribution union Usdaw has launched a Black Members’ Development Programme to help address the under-representation of Black members in Usdaw’s structures and at union events and conferences.

It is among a number of unions running similar programmes which are being supported by the TUC.

General secretary Paddy Lillis said that 17% of Usdaw members are Black.

But he said that despite the union’s progress in recent years, “they are not always as visible or as rooted in our structures as they could be”.
