Clean energy plan

The government’s clean energy action plan, setting out how it will meet its 2030 goal of 95% clean energy generation, is “clearly a step in the right direction”, according to Unite general union general secretary Sharon Graham.

But she said the government “could do better” and that oil and gas workers need “real, equivalent jobs to go to”. She called for a solution for the Grangemouth refinery and a plan for the UK to manufacture its own wind turbines. And she said the government had missed a golden opportunity to bring the national grid under public ownership.

The Prospect specialists’ union strongly welcomed the plan to accelerate progress towards “secure, affordable and decarbonised” energy. It also called for urgent action on skills and a just transition for workers in carbon-intensive industries.
