Gaza ceasefire

The NUJ journalists’ union last month welcomed the Gaza ceasefire deal, pointing to the “shocking death toll of at least 163 journalists arising from the conflict”.

After 15 months of conflict that has seen the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, Israel’s government approved a deal with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza.

NUJ general secretary Laura Davison said: “There must be clear guarantees for press freedom and respect for journalists including those reporting from Gaza.

“The Israeli government must also act swiftly, allowing international media unfettered access. Now more than ever, both sides must respect the enshrined rights of journalists to carry out their professional duties.”
