Prospect members and Labour
Two-thirds of members of the Prospect professionals’ union polled just after last July’s general election felt the new Labour government would make things better for the country, according to the union.
This was despite the fact that just 44% had voted Labour, with 18% voting for the Lib Dems, 13% the Greens, 9% the Conservative and 8% Reform UK.
In Scotland, around a third of those polled (35%) voted for the SNP while in Wales 20% chose Plaid Cymru.
Despite the optimism, under half (47%) thought things would improve for them or their family and just 46% thought the change to a Labour government would help the industry they work in.
Prospect, which ran the survey, said members broadly supported Labour’s New Deal for Working People, with the most popular measures being greater access rights for unions, ending fire and rehire and online voting in statutory ballots.
