Journalists’ strike
Portuguese journalists came out on general strike last month for the first time since 1982. The strike began on 14 March and continued for 24 hours, affecting a wide range of media outlets.
The journalists’ key demand is for higher pay and proper payments for overtime worked.
The situation in the sector worsened sharply last year following a crisis at Global Media Group, one of the country’s main media operations, which resulted in wages not being paid and layoffs.
