Stobart warehouse workers gain recognition
The United Road Transport Union (URTU) has won union statutory recognition on behalf of 51 Eddie Stobart warehouse operatives employed at Kilsby in Rugby.
The employer had disputed the definition of the “bargaining unit” proposed by URTU but was overruled by the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC), which went with the union’s definition. The CAC then ordered a ballot, in which 33 out of 36 workers participating (92%) voted in favour of URTU recognition. This amounted to 65% of the bargaining unit, surpassing the 40% threshold under the law.
Meanwhile, the GMB general union is seeking statutory recognition on behalf of Eddie Stobart workers at the warehouse in Braunston in Leicester.
