UK support for US actors’ strike

Up to 500 people, including actors Brian Cox, David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell and Imelda Staunton, took part in the Equity trade union’s central London rally in support of striking members of SAG-AFTRA, its sister union representing performers on screen in the United States.

Equity general secretary Paul Flemming said: “The issues SAG-AFTRA face are the same as the issues that we face.”

He said these were: “Low pay, agreements that need modernisation for the age of streaming and the rise of new technology like AI.”
