French pension plans paused
French president Emmanuel Macron has accepted that his plans for major changes in the country’s pension system cannot currently be implemented.
Opposition to the proposals produced major industrial action at the end of 2019 and the start of 2020 before they were put on ice due to the pandemic.
In a television address last month, Macron said the conditions to relaunch the “necessary” reforms were not met. He indicated he would return to the issue if re-elected in next year’s presidential vote.
