Net zero proposals
Later this month, the European Commission is set to make proposals on how governments in EU member states should deal with the labour and social aspects of the move to a much lower carbon economy.
The EU made a commitment in July 2021 that it would reduce net emissions by 55% by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050.
However, it recognises that, without government action, many parts of society could be negatively affected and that policies need to be in place to deal with the employment and social impact of climate and energy policies.
