Parents seek new jobs

The rising cost of living saw UK parents seeking new jobs as the autumn school term got underway, according to a survey of 1,500 by the Breakroom jobs platform. Two-thirds (67%) said better pay would be their priority when looking for a new job, while one in five (22%) pointed to better hours/more flexibility.

With payroll employment continuing to rise (by 71,000 in August), over 1.2 million vacancies, and the latest redundancy rate still low at 2%, there do seem to be opportunities to jump ship. According to the survey, 31% were planning to look for new or better employment as soon as the school term started, while a further 58% said they were considering change before the end of the year.

Only a minority (43%) said the rising cost of living had not changed their employment plans. A massive 83% said they had not had an increase in their pay despite the rise in the cost of living.
