PCS leadership election
The process for electing a new leader for the PCS civil service union, following May’s surprise announcement of Mark Serwotka’s impending retirement, will likely begin in early September.
Saying it had “been an honour and a privilege to serve as PCS general secretary for 23 years,” Serwotka pointed to his “serious health issues” as being key to his decision to retire.
The union’s largest left grouping, PCS Left Unity, which has been supportive of Serwotka, is pushing for current president Fran Heathcote to succeed him.
