Inflation falls
Inflation as measured by the CPI Consumer Prices Index fell unexpectedly to 1.7% in the year to September, the lowest rate for more than three years. Meanwhile, Retail Prices Index inflation was 2.7% — lower than any month since March 2021.
Ironically, this month's low inflation figure could mean bad news for some workers who access benefits as the uprating of certain benefits is usually tied to the September CPI figure.
