Give all workers pay rise, says RMT

Rail union the RMT has begun balloting nearly 2,500 Scotrail staff for both strike action and action short of a strike, after negotiations failed to produce a pay offer that meets the demands of the workforce.

During this pandemic year, Scotrail has used losses and being bound by the extension of Emergency Measures Agreements as justifications for not giving workers across all grades a pay rise. It did, however, offer an above-inflation rise to drivers.

The RMT believes that the continued success of the railway in these particularly difficult times is down to all the grades that work on it and that all staff should be remunerated fairly.

Meanwhile, in London, the RMT is to ballot canteen workers in London Underground depots for industrial action after private contractor Sodexo announced it intends to go ahead with a plan to slash 30 jobs, nearly a third of the workforce.
