Maternity discrimination

The Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy & Family Leave) Bill has passed its final reading in the House of Commons.

Dan Jarvis MP’s Private Member’s Bill will secure better protection from maternity discrimination by preventing employers making women redundant from the moment they disclose their pregnancy.

UNISON public services union general secretary Christina McAnea said: “Maternity discrimination cases make up much of the union’s legal case load, so this new law can’t come soon enough.”
