Journalists and war
The NUJ journalists' union repeated its call for Israel to adhere to international law and ensure journalists are protected as the death toll of Palestinian media workers in the Israel-Gaza conflict rose.
By early January, at least 85 journalists including 78 Palestinians had been killed since the Hamas attack on 7 October.
The International Journalists' Federation annual list of journalists killed showed 2023 was a particularly deadly year, with the highest number of deaths in recent years.
Sixty-eight percent of recorded killings arose from the Israel-Gaza conflict, with 75 Palestinian, four Israeli, and three Lebanese journalists killed.
