Inflation edges down

Inflation was marginally down on the back of cheaper travel costs, offset by rising food prices and clothing and footwear. Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — the measure favoured by union negotiators — the rate edged down to 3.1% in March from 3.2% the previous month.

Under the government-preferred CPIH measure — Consumer Prices Index plus owner-occupier housing costs — the annual rate of inflation was steady at 2.3%.
