Living standards still hit hard
The picture for earnings remains subdued. People’s living standards continue to be hit, with the gap between average weekly earnings and inflation widening.
In July, earnings growth remained low at a mere 0.6% while inflation was running at 3.1%, giving a gap of 2.5 percentage points.
The previous month’s gap was 2.3 percentage points.
