Golden goodbyes

Mike Kennedy, the former chief operating office of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has walked away with a golden goodbye of over £300,000. He was one of 29 employees to get a pay-off of over £100,000.

The 2012-13 accounts for the CPS show Kennedy, who left at the end of November 2012, received “compensation” of £255,000 to £260,000 along with compensation in lieu of notice of £45,000 to £60,000. In addition, he was paid £95,000 to £100,000 for the seven months he worked in 2012-13.

Kennedy, who is less than a year off retirement, can also look forward to an annual pension of £55,000 to £60,000 along with a lump sum of £165,000 to £170,000 to cushion his retirement.

The CPS accounts show that nearly £21 million was paid in “exit packages” to 501 employees as the service slashed jobs.

Kennedy was one of two members of staff to get over £150,000 and there were 27 who received between £100,000 and £150,000 in “exit packages”.
