Acoustic shock case goes to appeal
The Royal Opera House has been given leave to appeal a landmark High Court decision concerning acoustic shock, which is caused by the sudden onset of unexpected noise, often delivered at a very intense frequency.
Earlier this year, in Goldscheider v Royal Opera House, the High Court ruled the Royal Opera House had failed to protect the hearing of its musicians and had caused acoustic shock to a former professional viola player. It was the first judgment to recognise acoustic shock as a compensatable condition.
