More action in Northern Ireland

On 13 March, action is planned in the Northern Ireland Civil Service, the education sector and public transport —publicly-owned Translink covers both Ulsterbus and NI Railways. Demonstrations on the day are being advertised by the Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Along with NIPSA and UNISON, unions in the education sector balloting for action include Unite, GMB and two of the teachers’ unions, UTU and INTO; the largest, NASUWT would not need to ballot, but is consulting members on whether to join the action.

Unite is also balloting in the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Police Service (PSNI), the Education and Library Boards, the NI Fire and Rescue Service and the industrial civil service.
