Unions call for inquiry into grading debacle
Four education unions have written to education secretary Gavin Williamson calling for an independent inquiry into last month’s gradings “fiasco”.
The letter, signed by the general secretaries of the NEU, ASCL, NAHT, and NASUWT, says that: “The overriding priority must be focused on ensuring that there is a robust strategy in place to ensure that young people are not disadvantaged next year.”
It also calls for the suspension of school performance tables in the 2020/21 academic year, stating that: “We believe this move would be widely welcomed in the education sector and relieve staff of one more concern in what is already an extremely challenging time.”
