Agreement helps protect workers

The TUC and the Portuguese trade union centre CGTP-IN have signed a co-operation protocol to help protect the thousands of Portuguese workers coming to the UK due to high unemployment in Portugal. The aim is also to help prevent the undercutting of existing workers’ wages, says the TUC.

The agreement, also covering Portuguese speakers from non-European countries such as Brazil, will help unions to recruit and represent the workers so they can enforce their rights. A guide to workplace rights in Portuguese will be posted on the TUC website.
