Women not optimistic about retirement

The number of women putting enough into their pension pot has reached a new low, according to a survey by the Scottish Widows financial services group.

A survey of 5,000 women and men found that some three out of five (60%) women were not saving enough for their retirement. It represents the lowest proportion ever recorded by the firm’s Women and pensions report, which has been tracking the figures since 2006.

It also uncovered a “black hole” with around one in five women relying on their partner’s pension to support them in later life, but often unclear about what would happen if their relationship broke down.
