Further action on South Western
Members of the RMT rail union on South Western Railway last month took further industrial action in their long-running dispute over safety, the role of the guard and the rolling out of driver-only operation.
The action aimed to get the company back to the negotiating table for genuine and meaningful talks.
Meanwhile, the union called on Northern Rail to withdraw its threat to axe guards as a train split in two at Leeds Station, leaving passengers stranded in the rear section.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said the union is awaiting findings from the investigation “into this potentially horrific incident” which continues to demonstrate “the need to have a guard on Northern Rail trains to deal with these emergency situations”.
