Two successes, one loss
The Unite general union has reached a voluntary recognition deal with haulage giant Wincanton on behalf of lorry drivers working on an Argos contract. The drivers are based at the Argos National Distribution Centre, near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
Meanwhile, transport union RMT has won one statutory claim for recognition and lost another.
At Western Greyhound, it won recognition without needing a ballot after the Central Arbitration Committee confirmed that more than half (60%) of the 154 workers in the bargaining unit were already members of the union.
However at Epsom Coaches Group, the CAC ordered a ballot which saw only 34% of the 277 workers in the bargaining unit support recognition – less than the threshold required to have it granted.
