Ford workers

Workers at the Ford plant in Blanquefort in France have launched a final legal effort to reverse its closure.

The closure of the plant, which makes gearboxes and employs around 850 people, was announced in February 2018 and largely implemented in July this year.

A plan for the operations to be transferred to another company, Punch Powerglide, was backed by the employees and French government but rejected by Ford at the start of 2019.

The CGT union at the plant has asked the court to declare the closure illegal, arguing that there is no good economic reason for it. The judgement is expected later this month.
