Hypertac pays up

Thirty long-term shop floor workers facing the sack from manufacturing firm Hypertac have won an improved redundancy package. This follows a direct “post card” appeal to Philip Bowman, chief executive of parent company Smiths Group.

The North London site is shutting, their work making electrical connectors for the rail and defence industries moving to France and Italy.

The workers’ Unite union says the deal represents a significant improvement on the original plan to give just statutory minimum redundancy pay.
