Unison guide to facility time

Extensive guidance on negotiating for and defending trade union facility time has been produced by public services union UNISON. Although aimed at its own branches, it includes information useful for any union organisation negotiating over or defending such arrangements.

The guidance presents arguments to put to employers in favour of facility time, including the fact that well-resourced reps can help sort out problems before they become serious, help manage organisational change, and provide an extra level of skills and knowledge on good employment practice.

UNISON has also produced a fact sheet, What to do if you lose facility time, which gives pointers about what branches can do to best cope with the loss.
