Trouser ban lifted
British Airways has been forced to lift a ban on some of its female cabin crew wearing trousers after a long running campaign by the Unite general union.
The move came after Unite reps ran a test case through the company’s internal procedures. It is also follows a recent survey in which 83% of female Unite members working on the airline’s mixed fleet said they wanted the option of wearing trousers.
Unite regional officer Matt Smith said that it was “ridiculous” that the company had still been “employing old fashioned views and treating women differently”. He added that the union was now looking forward to “carrying on working with the company to increase the pay, terms and conditions of our members who make British Airways the global success it is today”.
