New union at HMRC
A small new union has set itself up in HM Revenue and Customs hoping to capitalise on problems faced by the established unions in the department.
The new R&C Trade Union (RCTU) was listed by the certification officer in January and is positioning itself as a more strike-averse union than the main union in the department, the PCS. The PCS has been actively fighting cuts and is consequently facing efforts by the employers to marginalise it.
RCTU secretary, Margi Rathbone, said: “Ordinary members are fed up with politically driven protest strikes that gain nothing but the loss of pay.”
PCS group secretary for HMRC Peter Middleman told the Morning Star: “Though we are not particularly concerned that this rogue outfit will gain any traction, we do know from experience elsewhere the lengths employers will go to in aiming to marginalise fighting unions.”
