ETUC concern at Cameron deal


Luca Visentini, general secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation, has expressed his concerns over the proposed deal on the UK’s EU membership, following discussions last month between UK prime minister David Cameron and Donald Tusk, president of the European Council. 


Referring to the plan to limit migrants’ in-work benefits for four years, he said that “what Europe needs is investment and decent pay for workers, not robbing low-paid migrants of their rights”. 


He also criticised the proposal to give non-Eurozone countries, like the UK, greater powers over Eurozone decisions. “It is a gift to the bankers and financiers in the City of London”, he said. “It is irrelevant for working people.”
