Progress on
equality is slow

The European Gender Equality Index, which measures men’s and women’s experience across a range of issues, shows that progress towards equality has been moving “at a snail’s pace” over the last 10 years. The figures, published last month, give an overall score for gender equality of 66.2 out of 100 in 2015 compared with 62.0 in 2005.

Sweden is at the top of the table with a score of 82.6, while Greece has the worst performance with a score of 50.0.

The UK has an above-average score of 71.5.
