Assaults on shop staff
Every day over 300 shopworkers are assaulted simply for doing their job, leading to a call for a change in the law from shopworkers’ union Usdaw.
The union wants a change in the law that “will encourage more prosecutions and send a clear message to the public that assaulting a worker in the course of their duties is totally unacceptable”.
In the past eight months, the coalition has voted down three amendments to legislation that would have tightened up the law on assaults of workers.
